Rs 55 Crore Wedding for Kerala Business Tycoon’s Daughter
Kerala, on Thursday witnessed its very own lavish Indian wedding, the likes of which has only been seen in the Bollywood and Mollywood cinemas. NRI business tycoon Ravi Pillai is reported to have spent a whopping Rs 55 crore on the wedding of his daughter Arathi Pillai with Kochi-based Adithya Vishnu at Asramam Ground in Kollam.
Pillai is an entrepreneur and the chairman of the Bahrain- headquartered RP Group with a net worth of Rs 19,300 crore.
The 40,000 sq ft Kalayana Mandapam, said to have cost over Rs 20 crore, was put together by Sabu Cyril, the art director of blockbuster movie Bahubali. The mandapam was modelled after the royal palaces in Rajasthan and it took the acclaimed art director and his team nearly 75 days to create. “Various parts for this set were moulded in clay in Mumbai, and then it was cast in plaster of paris. It took us about 40 days to assemble the pre-fabricated structures here,” said Cyril.
Political bigwigs and eminent personalities graced the occasion. Guests included leaders of several countries, members of royal families, eminent industrialists, politicians, diplomats and celebrities from cinema field. An area of 1 lakh square feet was set apart for VIPs.
Officers of Guinness world records also attended the function to analyse the settings and stage of the marriage. Chartered flights were arranged for Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and the royal family of Bahrain who flew in on Wednesday.
The festivities included singer Gayathri’s bhajan and performances of various artists from Malayalam film industry including Manju Warrier’s Kuchippudi and Sobhana’s Bharatanatyam. The 30,000 guests were also treated to a musical fiesta led by Stephen Devassy.
