The film has created a new opening day box office collection record in Malayalam movie industry by amassing Rs 2 crore on the release day.

Martin Prakkat’s love saga Charlie is his third directorial venture. With Dulquer Salman and Parvathy in the lead roles, the film had hit the theatres with high expectations as Martin and Dulquer are teaming up for the first time after the success of ABCD. Charlie is gathering positive reviews from both audience and critics and looks well on the way to become a blockbuster.

The movie was released on December 24th in India and a day before in some foreign countries. Released in nearly 100 theatres in Kerala, it is expected to do good business during the weekend. Nivin Pauly’s Premam, which was released in May 2015, had collected Rs 3.5 crore in the first two days and is one of the top grossers ever in Kerala.

Written by Unni R and Martin Prakkat, Charlie is all about celebration, happiness, surprises and love. It all starts when Tessa (Parvathy) decides she needs to relocate and rents a home. As she cleans up the messy rooms, she discovers some interesting aspects about a bohemian youth, who lived there before she came. Martin’s Charlie is about her search to find that amazing guy.

Cinematographer Jomon T John’s visualization and Gopi Sunder’s music are coming in for much praise. Nedumudi Venu, Aparna Gopalan and Tovino have cameo roles while Parvathy has another meaty role after playing Moideen’s Kanchana to much acclaim. And by all reports Dulquer Salmaan, Malayalam superstar Mammotty’s son, is definitely carving out a niche all his own as a dependable star in South Indian film industry.
