Admissions are open for the three courses on offer at the newly launched Kerala State Institute of Design (KSID). The institute, which comes under the Kerala government’s apex skill development agency KASE, will be supported by the prestigious National Institute of Design (NID). Releasing the prospects, Shibu Baby John, Labour Minister of Kerala, said the aim was to make this an exemplary institute with faculty and curriculum support of the NIDs. "It aims to create highly skilled design professionals and also produce a "made in Kerala" brand, with part of the syllabus planned with particular attention to using the state's natural resources, particularly in the handicrafts and handloom sectors," he said.
