Chennai Rains: Mammootty Invites People Home, Offers Shelter

South superstar Mammootty has come out extending his help to people stranded in Chennai rains. A resident of Chennai for years, he has offered accommodation to affected people at about 20 places including his own residence and the apartments of his friends at various parts of Chennai.

In a post in his official Facebook page, which has 2.9 million followers, Mammootty put across the details including a list of names and contact numbers of volunteers.

The actor has invited flood victims from Annanagar, Arumbakkam Aminjikarai, Mmdc colony, Choolaimadu and nearby areas to stay at his house as his guests. Apart from food and shelter, he has also offered to pick up and drop off stranded people from the locality including Nungambakkam Station, metro station and Anna Arch.

Other celebrities chip in

The south star is among a host of celebrities and film stars who have offered their helping hand in the relief and rescue efforts for victims of the unprecedented downpour, the heaviest recorded in a 100 years in Chennai.

Actor Siddharath was one of the most active persons and kept tweeting messages related to his rescue work to reach out to more people.

Among others, Superstar Rajinikanth donated ten lakh rupees to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund while his son-in-law Dhanush contributed five lakh rupees. Actors Surya and his brother Karthi donated twenty five lakh rupees to CM’s fund. Actor Vishal Krishna Reddy and Raghava Lawrence donated ten lakh rupees each. Telugu film actors Nandamuri Brothers, NTR and Kalyan Ram, Mahesh Babu, Ravi Teja and actor Varun Tej also contributed to the relief fund.

Many people from Malayalam film fraternity including Mohanlal, Aashiq Abu, Rima Kallingal, and Lijo Jose Pellissery have also posted messages of support for people battered by the rains.
