Art Scene in Kerala to Get a Boost With Global Artist Village
India’s first state-run global artist village is all set to open in Kannur in Kerala. The village, of international standards, is meant to provide artists from the country and abroad a common platform to live and work together.
The Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, under the Department of Cultural Affairs, has designed the facility which will open on September 29. State Minister for Culture K C Joseph will inaugurate the village located at Kakkannanpara in Sreekandapuram.
The artist village, or Kalagramam, comprises of studios-cum-residential complex where artists can come, stay and work together.
A number of dignitaries, comprising those with art, culture and political background including well-known artist and Akademi chairman Kattoor Narayanapillai and vice chairman Chitra Krishnankutty, are expected to participate in the event, an official release said in Thiruvananthapuram.
Touted as the first such facility of global standards in the country, the village will offer separate studios providing a canvas to granite, wood, metal and clay artists.
Residential complexes, exhibition galleries, library and conference hall are among other facilities offered in the village.
